Tony Abbott, the Health Minister makes a fair point; that being that we can't allow the risk of scientists creating 'life to order' (my term, not his but essentially, that's his point). This would be all well and good were it not for Mr Abbots motivation behind such a speech. His rabid catholicism is what drives this opinion, much like it did in the abortion drug RU 486, (or something like that term - don't quote me) issue.
He has repeatedly failed to show impartiallity in such matters and then has the audacity to cite ethics in his speech? Scandalous behaviour and Mr Abbott should be removed from this particular portfolio forthwith!

"Is Muttars or Mutters whichever --biased against those of the catholic faith. I am not of that faith --episcopalian I believe those of that faith call us misguided souls. However I do not find it necessary to denigrate their beliefs. Religion is a very personal matter. Each to his own.
I do not agree that the minister in question was driven by his religion or beliefs.
Stem cell research is a very important advance in medicine and as such should be used sparingly and for very specific reasons.
Children are a gift from God and designer babies are beyond the pale.
It is always a worry until the little bundle -- not always of joy--arrives safe and well-- and a relief to boot.
There are so many unwanted children around now-a-days that people who have money (always the criteria) are going against nature
trying to manufacture their perfect specimens of humanity.
When the children reach the age of maturity--for want of a better expression-- they "do their own thing" anyway and designer babies will not change that!!
I appear to have lost the thread. To get back to the subject in hand.
This minister is probably full of good intentions and I do not agree that his religion had anything to do with those opinions.
However until we reach the stage --and anything can happen--- when men
produce babies -- maybe they should keep their opinions to themselves!!!!!
