Course it would - it'll be here for millenia after we're gone (see 'Have we really done it' post).
We're the worst thing ever to have happened to this planet and it's benign species but man is so wrapped up in himself that nothing else matters. Human life shouldn't be any more sacrosanct than any other life - and therein lies the fundamental problem.
